Using LinkedIn with intention and consistency will help you explore opportunities, make meaningful connections, and find clarity in your options, even if your path is uncertain right now, and yes, FIND A JOB!

It’s your network that will help you find that perfect job or internship. With today’s highly competitive job market, you need to do everything you can to be recognized and remembered…to be remarkable. Connecting via LinkedIn will help you make and maintain contacts beyond your home geography and peer group who will open doors in the future!

10 steps to maximize your LinkedIn profile for success!

  1. Create your profile (account) at www.LinkedIn.com

  3. Write a brief informative profile headline. Seek examples, consider what you aspire to, not simply what you do today. This is the most valuable real estate in your profile, make it count! Write a Perfect LinkedIn Headline
  4. Write the ‘About’ section. This is not just who you are, but what you aspire to. What are your skills, strengths, and character contributions you bring to a potential employer? LinkedIn Summaries examples.
  5. Add your Experience. Write it like a resume, what is your value and impact with each experience? Here’s a checklist as you update the education and experience sections
  6. Add your Education. Be specific with your degree, major, organizations you’re involved with, campus activities, etc.
  7. Create a personalized LinkedIn URL, and set your profile to public. Be sure to use your LinkedIn URL in your email signature and resume. 
  8. Add your Skills. Link them to your education and experience accordingly. This is an impactful way to be seen by hiring managers, recruiters, and industry professionals. Be as specific and applicable as possible. Why add skills on LinkedIn, and what skills matter. 
  9. Start building your network!  Add applicable connections, classmates, colleagues, advisors, etc. Be sure you understand the difference between ‘Connect’ and ‘Follow.’
  10. Join at least 1 GROUP, follow at least 2 COMPANIES, and follow YOUR SCHOOL.  You can also follow people who are ‘Top Voices,’ and subscribe to newsletters related to your field or area of interest.
